Shawtiez University
Abstract:
Most people typically see performance and linguistics as two very different fields of study. But both compliment each other quite well, combining both fields can achieve something beautiful and bright. My capstone is a form of reality television. Something that most have partaken in as a viewer, brought to you by real life students you know personally. We as a collective bring questions to the table such as; how do the characters compare to their real life counterparts? How much of reality tv isn’t real? As well as - as a viewer, do you find it easier or harder to separate the real person from their portrayal? Shawtiez University is a series about students who come together as a collective, balancing out the hardships of being a shawty as well as a student. The girls go through trials and tribulations as students who have to juggle homework and parties, as well as the lack of pragmatic socialization from the other girls within the dorm. With a problematic producer working behind the scenes and in front of the camera, the girls spreading lies about other cast members, and maintaining relationships with each other, Shawtiez university strives to be a critique on reality television while being reality television itself.
